Camps and Festivals
UW-Platteville offers multiple festival and camp opportunities throughout the year. Here you will find more information on these events and the unique qualities they offer.
High School Choral Festival
Each October, UW-Platteville hosts the High School Choral Festival. Hundreds of high school choristers from the Tri-State area convene for a day of rehearsal and performance with each of UW-Platteville's single-gender choirs, Coro D'Angeli, and Singing Pioneers. Emphasis is placed on fostering camaraderie as well as a lifelong love of the choral arts. Concurrent with rehearsals and break-out activities for students, sponsoring teachers also benefit from continuing education interest sessions and workshops. The festival culminates with a performance in the evening, wherein each combined gender choir of high schoolers and college students is showcased alongside the three UW-Platteville mixed choirs.
Jazz Festival
An event open to middle and high school jazz ensembles, the UW-Platteville Jazz Festival offers large and small groups the chance to perform in competitive or non-competitive categories on the Center for the Arts stage. The festival features instrument-specific master classes, improvisation workshops, one-hour clinics for each ensemble with a UW-Platteville jazz faculty member, and an opportunity to play in a jazz jam session.
Piano Clinic
The annual UW-Platteville Piano Clinic is designed to help students strengthen their performance skills in preparation for the State Solo & Ensemble Festival. Typically held one to two weeks before the state event in April, the clinic offers a valuable opportunity for students to refine their playing in a supportive and professional setting. The clinic takes place in one of the same rooms used for the State Solo & Ensemble Festival, allowing students to become familiar with the performance environment in advance. This event is free of charge and open to all piano students preparing for Solo & Ensemble.
Piano Festival
The UW-Platteville Piano Festival is a biennial two-day celebration of piano performance and learning, offering a unique opportunity for young pianists, UW-Platteville piano students, local teachers, and community members to come together through music. Held in our beautiful Brodbeck Concert Hall, featuring a Steinway Concert D, the festival provides participants with a 45-minute individual lesson, the chance to perform in a recital, and the opportunity to take part in an interactive Q&A session with guest pianists and artists. All lessons are open for public observation, allowing students and teachers alike to gain insight into teaching approaches and performance interpretation. Led by UW-Platteville music faculty, students will spend the week diving into new music, working with professional musicians, and meeting new friends. This is an excellent opportunity for students to work with other gifted young musicians from across the tri-state area. Learn more about the Pioneer Summer Band Camp.
