Chancellor welcomes faculty and staff at annual convocation, outlines goals for new year

Interim Chancellor Dr. Tammy Evetovich speaks at convocation.

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Interim Chancellor Dr. Tammy Evetovich kicked off the 2022-23 academic year at the annual faculty and staff convocation on Sept. 1.

“As I transition into the role of interim chancellor, I want you to know what I value,” said Chancellor Evetovich, who assumed the interim role on June 1. “I value collaboration, both internally and externally, and I believe it’s the foundation for our success.”

Chancellor Evetovich updated the faculty and staff on other transitions in administration, including Dr. Wayne Weber’s position as interim provost and Dr. Charles Steiner as interim dean of the College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture. She introduced Dr. Hilton Kelly, who joined the College of Liberal Arts and Education as dean on June 1. Dr. Philip Parker continues to serve as acting dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science.

Chancellor Evetovich outlined the operating principles and vision for the upcoming academic year, including two main goals.

“First, we’re going to focus on stabilizing or increasing our enrollment,” she said. “I’m proud to say we have a very optimistic outlook for our incoming class, which is up overall. This is a positive sign for our enrollment goals. Our second goal is to build a budget philosophy that reflects our priorities, respects process, is data informed and creates accountability.”

In addition to Chancellor Evetovich, each member of the chancellor’s cabinet delivered an update on their respective areas. Cabinet members include: Dr. Wayne Weber, interim provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs; Dr. Lynsey Schwabrow, interim vice chancellor for Administrative Services and chief business officer; Angela Udelhofen, vice chancellor for Enrollment and Student Success; Dr. Kristina Navarro-Krupka, assistant chancellor and director of Athletics and Recreation; Angela Miller, assistant chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and chief diversity officer; John Dunning, assistant vice chancellor of institutional research, planning, and strategy and chief data officer; Joshua Boots, assistant vice chancellor for development and alumni engagement; and Paul Erickson, chief communications officer.

Weber recognized the university and UW System award winners (listed below) and grant recipients.

Chancellor Evetovich concluded with her hopes for the faculty and staff in the new academic year.

“My wish for you all is to be steadfast,” she said. “In all that we do, we are in this together. I wish you to be well. Overall wellness is very important, so please take care of yourself, and take care of each other. In doing so, we will be innovators, discoverers and creators. We will be Pioneers.”

UW-Platteville’s first day of fall classes is Tuesday, Sept. 6.
