Admission Guidelines

Although the master’s program requires no entrance exam, such as the GRE or GMAT, some programs may have specific admission requirements. To be considered for admission, you must have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution that meets UW-System standards and is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or U.S. Department of Education (USDE), and have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (2.90 on the last 60 credits from the degree granting institution). International degrees are evaluated on an individual basis.

Application Process

To apply to UW-Platteville as a graduate student pursuing a degree online, please submit the following:

  • UW System Application
  • $56 application fee
  • Transcripts from your undergraduate degree-granting institution
  • Transcripts for any previously earned graduate credits to be considered for transfer
  • Résumé emailed to disted@uwplatt.edu

Your official transcripts must be submitted directly to UW-Platteville from the issuing institution. Transcripts can be mailed to:

Office of Admission
University of Wisconsin-Platteville

If the college you are currently attending or previously attended uses an electronic transcript service for sending official transcripts, we can accept electronic transcripts directly from that service. Official electronic transcripts should be sent by selecting Graduate Admissions.

Specific Program Requirements

In addition to meeting university admission guidelines, there are additional admission requirements for the specific programs listed below. For a complete listing of all graduate programs visit Academics.

Single Course Enrollment

Not ready to enroll in a degree program? You can enroll as a Special Student for single course enrollment. You may enroll in a single course rather than a full degree for personal enrichment, to apply toward a certificate, if you plan on transferring the course to another institution, or if you want to start a course(s) while the admission process is completed.

As a special student you:

  • Can enroll in a maximum of 12 credits.
  • Must meet prerequisites for courses. You may be asked to provide an unofficial transcript to show prerequisites.
  • Are not obligated to follow specific degree requirements.
  • Are not eligible for financial aid.
  • May be admitted to a degree program after completing the admission process and any in-progress coursework. Check program requirements for more information.

You may register as a Special Student and receive academic credit for courses taken while at this status if you have earned a bachelor’s degree from a nationally or regionally accredited institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

To enroll for a single graduate course review the complete list of online course offerings and complete the Special Student Application.
