The Student Success Center houses UW-Platteville's TRIO Student Support Services, McNair Scholars Program, Fostering Success, Student Learning & Engagement Services, and the Pioneers Helping Pioneers Free Store.
Student Success Center is a student services program that provides a variety of free support services to help our participants become successful college graduates:
- Academic Coaching and Advising
- Academic Skill Building Workshops
- Financial Literacy, including help understanding your financial aid package and FAFSA completion
- Connections and referrals to on and off campus resources Individual study spaces
- Computer lab and student lounge
- Wellness and personal development activities
Student Learning & Engagement Services
SLES provides programming and resources designed to promote academic success and increase student engagement for all currently enrolled UW-Platteville students. SLES provides workshops, engagement activities, and assistance with connecting to campus resources for all students.
TRIO Student Support Services
TRIO SSS is a federally funded program that provides programming, resources, and support to address the unique needs of first-generation, low-income, and disabled students. TRIO SSS provides workshops, activities, tutoring, academic coaching, and individualized support for eligible students.
McNair Scholars Program
The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program, also called the McNair Scholars Program, is a federally funded program designed to help undergraduate students who are low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented achieve their goal of earning a doctoral degree. The program helps students transition from undergraduate and graduate education through academic, research, and scholarly experiences. Students selected for the McNair Scholars Program will work with a faculty mentor on a summer research project and receive a stipend of up to $2,800.
Fostering Success Program
Fostering Success provides resources and support for students who have been in foster care, experienced housing insecurity, were orphaned, or were once wards of the court and are interested in pursuing higher education. This program connects students with the resources, community, and support needed to succeed.
Pioneers Helping Pioneers Free Store
The PHP Free Store, located in Room 139, Ottensman Hall, is a free thrift store open to all currently enrolled UW-Platteville students. The PHP Free Store offers household items such as kitchenware, bedding, and decor; school supplies, winter gear such as coats, hats, and gloves; as well as a variety of other items.
Pioneers Helping Pioneers Emergency Grant
For the past few years, UW-Platteville has been able to utilize federal COVID relief funds to offer emergency grants for UW-Platteville students. Unfortunately, all federal COVID funds have now been exhausted and UW-Platteville has very limited funding available to provide emergency grants.
