UW-Platteville’s elementary education program will help you gain the skills necessary to positively influence students’ intellectual growth and overall capabilities. Elementary education, along with a minor in early childhood, will prepare you to teach infants, toddler and preschool programs, and kindergarten through sixth grade.

The education we offer now is built on a proud history, as UW-Platteville opened as the first teacher’s college in the state of Wisconsin in 1866. In the generations since, we’ve trained thousands of teachers while creating a dynamic program that responds to the needs of our students and the schools and communities they will serve. This includes a focus on rural education, as a 2019 survey showed that 70 percent of our students go on to teach in small communities in the Midwest and throughout the country. Associate Professor Dr. Lindsay Hollingworth shares how the program has adapted to meet the needs of rural educators.

In addition to teaching, coursework will prepare you for a career as a director for a children's center, Head Start program, and family education programs.
