Purpose

The UW-Platteville Excellence in Service to Internationalization Award is presented annually to a UW-Platteville alum, community member or community organization anywhere in the world who has had a significant impact on internationalization at UW-Platteville or in the Platteville community.

Eligibility

The aim of the award is to extend public recognition to individuals (not currently studying or employed at UW-Platteville) or organizations who give their time, energy, and passion to internationalization efforts at UW-Platteville or in the Platteville community. Community members or organizations not based in Platteville but who have greatly contributed to the internationalization of UW-Platteville are also eligible for this award.

Criteria

Internationalization contributions may include but are not limited to:

  • community development. Examples may include: nurturing inclusiveness, forming relationships between the international population and the public, or increasing the general knowledge of diverse peoples and cultures.
  • education abroad activities. Examples may include: establishing or enhancing successful international opportunities for domestic students, providing funding for students to take part in international experiences, or personally embodying and promoting the importance of incorporating an international experience into a UW-Platteville degree.
  • international partnerships. Examples may include: identifying and developing valuable new international partners, actively sustaining partnerships through personal engagement, or encouraging the exchange of faculty, staff, administrators, or community members.
  • international student and scholar initiatives. Examples may include: facilitating exchange of scholars, supporting academic and/or auxiliary programs which have enhanced the experience international students, and fostering student integration and success.
  • on-campus student learning. Examples may include: providing curricular opportunities including international perspectives, offering co-curricular opportunities with an international focus, and establishing or enhancing successful internationally-related academic programs.
  • university development. Examples may include: championing international initiatives in strategic planning, personally funding or advocating for funding for internationally-linked advancements, or advocating for infrastructure development.

Recognition

The award will be given to one nominee per year. The recipient will be given a plaque and will be recognized at the annual UW-Platteville International Night Dinner (April).

Nominations

Students, UW-Platteville personnel, or community members may submit nominations. Self-nominations are also accepted. Nominations must include:

  • a completed, signed nomination form.
  • a one-page letter of support outlining how the nominee meets the qualities/practices listed under the “Criteria” section of the award description and any additional contributions, qualities, or practices.

Following the nomination, the nominator is asked to assist in collecting the following from the award nominee:

  • a one- to two-page description of the nominee’s experiences contributing to university and/or community internationalization.
  • a list of three additional references who can attest to the nominee’s merit.
  • any additional documentation exemplifying the nominee’s contributions.

Timeline

All required items must be submitted to studyabroad@uwplatt.edu by:

  • December 12 - Nomination form and supporting documents due
  • February 1 – Award nominee’s supporting items due

Selection

The UW-Platteville Excellence in Service to Internationalization Award selection will be undertaken by the University International Education Committee (UIEC). Recipients will be notified by March 31.
