Cost of Attendance
The student budget, or Cost of Attendance, is designed to provide an estimated projection of the overall costs that you will encounter while attending UW-Platteville. It includes tuition and fees, housing and meals, supplies, transportation, and miscellaneous expenses. These figures are estimates used to determine your eligibility for financial aid. Actual expenses may vary.
Cost of Attendance is created depending on several factors:
- Student’s state of legal residence (Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Non-Resident)
- Type of degree seeking (Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s)
- Number of credits enrolled (full-time, half-time, less than half-time)
- Housing while attending (on campus, off campus, with a parent)

Direct and Indirect Costs
Cost of Attendance includes both direct and indirect costs. Direct costs are billed to your account from the university, like tuition and fees, on-campus housing, and meal plans. Indirect costs are not billed to your account but are expenses that you may incur while attending UW-Platteville, such as supplies, transportation, miscellaneous personal expenses, and housing and meals if you live off campus.
For students enrolled for less than half-time, the COA may only include tuition and fees, books and supplies, and transportation.

Housing and Meals (on campus)
Students living in a residence hall will have expenses for housing and meals listed under direct costs. An average cost of housing options is used to determine the amount. Meal cost estimates are based on covering three meals a day. This is not always in alignment with meal plan options.
Note: For students living in Rountree Commons, costs are not billed through UW-Platteville, however, the cost of attendance for a resident will use “on campus” as the housing category.
Indirect Costs
-
Housing and Meals (off campus)
Students living off-campus or with a parent will have housing and meals listed as indirect costs. An average cost of housing options is used to determine the amount. Meal cost estimates are based on covering three meals a day.
-
Transportation
The estimated amount for transportation includes the cost of travel between the student’s residence, place of work, and the institution. Transportation estimates are not prorated based on enrollment status. Students in distance education programs receive the same transportation estimate as an off-campus student.
-
Supplies
This category includes basic supplies for the academic year. The amount is prorated based on the number of credits a student is enrolled in.
Note: The cost of a computer is not included in supplies. However, students who can document the purchase of a computer required for a particular course of study may reach out to Financial Aid and Scholarships for an adjustment to the COA.
