The University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s School of Agriculture offers bachelor of science degrees in seven major areas, including dairy science in Wisconsin. Tailor your dairy science degree with one of two emphasis areas

Comprehensive

The comprehensive emphasis is a unique program that provides maximum flexibility to tailor your degree to your specific interests and experiences. You will work with your advisor to get approval for this emphasis.

Pre-Veterinary

The animal science pre-veterinary emphasis will also prepare you to further your education at the veterinary school where you wish to apply. You will work closely with your academic advisor to ensure all veterinary school admission requirements are met, as requirements will vary by school. UW-Platteville's School of Agriculture graduates have a high rate of placement, with 82 percent of veterinary school applicants for the 2021 academic year receiving acceptance.

Careers in Dairy Science

Dairy science careers typically focus on the health and management of dairy animals. In addition to a knowledge of animal anatomy, nutrition, genetics, and biology, successful professionals in this industry often also focus on the business of dairy science, including economics and the management of dairy production facilities.

With UW-Platteville's fully functioning 430-acre livestock and feed farm and award-winning Dairy Judging and Dairy Challenge teams, graduates can expect to find jobs on farms or with companies working with dairy animals daily as herdsmen, nutritionists, reproductive technologists, or as consultants for dairy processing plants. Our dairy science college graduates are also sought after for their exceptional laboratory skills to work as quality assurance specialists or lab technicians.
