Biography
About
As an undergraduate Dr. Sprengelmeyer participated in the McNair program at Northern Michigan University (NMU). After a successful completion of the program, he received a Master of Science degree from NMU and a PhD in Genetics from UW-Madison. His research led to multiple peer-reviewed publications, with one being chosen for the cover of the high-impact journal. During his time as graduate student at NMU and the UW-Madison he mentored and supervised undergraduates conducting research for credit, participants in NSF-funded REU programs, and McNair scholars. His mentees developed strong skills developing research projects and proposals, learned cutting-edge laboratory and data analysis techniques, and wrote for publication. After graduation, Dr. Sprengelmeyer joined Beloit College’s Biology department as a visiting Professor. Upon completion of that appointment, he taught Adult Basic Education at New Lisbon Correctional Institution. Currently he is the Director of TRIO McNair Scholars Program and Director of Fostering Success at UW-Platteville.
