About
Kim Sargent received her Master of Science in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science from Central College in Pella, IA.
Sargent has taught mathematics in secondary schools and taught elementary algebra, intermediate algebra and college algebra for UW-Platteville. She has also taught UWPStudy 1010: Intro to College Life and is currently teaching Computer Science 1830: Microcomputer Applications at UW-Platteville. Her professional interests lie in STEM outreach programs for girls, increasing recruitment and retention of women in STEM majors, fostering inclusiveness and diversity, and program planning. Sargent manages the Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Program, which includes a Women in STEM Living Learning Community, two Women in STEM Mentor Programs and the annual Women in STEM Banquet. She also coordinates two outreach programs for girls, Women in STEM Career Day (9th-12th grade) and Pioneering Your Future in STEM (5th-8th grade). She is the advisor for the student organization, the Society of Women Engineers.
She is the recipient of the UW-Platteville Outstanding Graduate Student Award (2012), UW-Platteville Alumni Association Honorary Lifetime Pioneer Award (2012), and the UW-Platteville Woman of the Year Award (2019). The Women in STEM Program has received numerous awards including, the Claire L. Felbinger Award for Diversity from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) (2016), a UW-Platteville Outstanding Student Organization Leadership Award (2017), and UW-Platteville Outstanding Departmental Organization Award (2023).
