Biography

Rebekah Demaree is a frequent concert soloist, having made multiple appearances as soprano soloist with the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria, as well as the Dubuque, Elkhart, Spokane, and Washington-Idaho symphony orchestras.  She made her Carnegie Hall debut in a chamber recital with works by Bach, Hüe and Head.

Demaree is a founding member of Duo Canto, a vocal ensemble of solo performers formed with a  UW-Platteville alumnus and former faculty member as well as Kassia: Women in Song, a UW-Platteville faculty vocal chamber ensemble dedicated the performance of works by women.

Rebekah commissioned an original solo vocal work “Monna Innominata” by Eric Barnum and sang the world premiere of “Not Long Enough” composed for Kassia by UW-Platteville Associate Director of Bands, Matthew Gregg.  Demaree also performed as soprano soloist for the European premiere of “Stabat mater” by Jonathon David in Todo, Italy. Additionally, she has performed in the soprano section of the Isthmus Vocal Ensemble and the Heartland Singers, and toured England, Scotland and Wales as soloist with the Midwest Chorale.

Demaree's vocal studio at UW-Platteville is comprised of over 24 majors, minors and certification students from freshmen through senior recitalists. Her students have competed at the statewide NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) auditions, where they have placed as semi-finalists, finalists and winners.  Singers from her studio have also performed on the UW-Platteville Student Honors Recitals and in the UW-Platteville Concerto/Aria competition, where they have won both the collegiate and high school divisions.

Rebekah’s chamber music and recital performances include the Chamber Recital Series, Eisenstadt; Rountree Ensemble; Kassia: Women in Song; 31st Street Concert Series, Austin; Heritage Recital Series, Madison and Appleton; 150thAnniversary Recital Series, Fort Wayne; Galena Festival of Performing Arts; Fabulous Fridays, Madison and Dubuque; and Oakwood Concert Series.   

Demaree has performed radio broadcasts for Live from the Chazen on WERN, Wisconsin Public Radio and for KUT, Texas Public Radio.  She is a Metropolitan Opera District Audition Winner and Regional Finalist, Seattle Northwest Artist, and Spokane Allied Arts Artist.  Ms. Demaree was one of the singers involved in John Wustman’s six-year song recital series which toured and performed all of Franz Schubert’s lieder.  

Rebekah’s solo concert appearances include Magnificat, Weihnachts Oratorium and Cantatas BWV 21, 51, 78, 79, 106 and 140 (Bach); Ninth Symphony (Beethoven); Liebeslieder Walzer, Op. 52 and Op. 65 and Ein deutsches Requiem (Brahms); Requiem (Fauré, Mozart, Rutter, and Verdi); Messiah (Handel), Harmoniemesse, Heiligmesse, Lord Nelson Mass, Missa Sancti Nicolai, and Schöpfungsmesse masses and The Creation (Haydn); Regina coeli, K. 108, Mass in c minor and Exsultate jubilate (Mozart); Elijah (Mendelssohn); Carmina Burana (Orff); Gloria (Poulenc and Vivaldi), and Mass in G (Schubert).  

Demaree’s musical theater and operatic stage roles include Lilli Vanessi, Kiss Me Kate; Mother Abbess, Sound of Music; Madame de la Grande Bouche, Beauty and the Beast; Julie Jordan, Carousel; Grace Farrell, Annie; Babe Williams, The Pajama Game; Madame Goldentrill, The Impresario; and Baby Doe, The Ballad of Baby Doe.

A graduate of Indiana University and the University of Idaho, Demaree served two years as Vocal Area Coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, teaching studio voice, Diction for Singers, and related courses.
