The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Continuing Education Institute is pleased to announce that alumna Xochitl Ortega is the winner of the 2019 Wisconsin Lifetime Learner Award. The Wisconsin Registry gives the award annually to recognize an individual who has excelled in the early child care and education field and demonstrates a passion for lifelong learning.

Ortega has been heavily involved with shaping the field of early childhood development through numerous service and professional endeavors. She is a nationally accredited bilingual five star family child care provider, serves on the board of directors of multiple educational organizations, and has received nine child care credentials from various institutions—including UW-Platteville’s own Continuing Education Institute. Additionally, Ortega has addressed national audiences and presented workshops on a wide variety of challenges in her profession, and believes that furthering her own education is the next step in providing higher quality programs for all.

“As an educator, I am a role model. Learning will never STOP for me,” said Ortega about winning the Lifetime Learner award. “I will always continue to share my knowledge through my presentations at state conferences and other opportunities, learning keeps me going.”
