The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Continuing Education Institute announces a new partnership with the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), a global leader in supply chain certification, in order to prepare learners to meet the ever-growing demand for well-trained and knowledgeable workers in the supply chain industry. As part of the partnership, UW-Platteville will offer two courses designed to aid and support those seeking their APICS certification.

"UW-Platteville is proud to offer the Certified Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM)," said UW-Platteville Continuing Education Institute Executive Director Kerie Wedige. "This in-demand certification will help regional businesses should they choose to send cohorts through the program by providing them with functional knowledge of production and inventory management."

Wedige said those who successfully complete the certification have the opportunity to earn higher wages. The Association for Supply Chain Management reports that APICS-certified individuals earn up to 27% more than their non-certified peers and 16% more than those with other certifications.

The course is led by UW-Platteville professor Wendy Brooke, a past President of the Madison Chapter of APICS. Brooke brings 20 years of experience and a deep educational background to the course. She said the need for qualified supply chain managers has grown exponentially, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a major shift in consumer demand and put a spotlight on supply chain vulnerabilities.

"The pandemic has shown us that planning is more important than ever, and the CPIM program gives you the tools and skills to address these challenges," said Brooke. "Earning the APICS CPIM demonstrates mastery of an organization’s internal operations and an in-depth understanding of materials management, master scheduling, forecasting, production planning and its application across the extended supply chain."

The CPIM credential is obtained after passing two exams. Each exam covers materials taught in the courses and is administered by ASCM. The UW-Platteville courses provide the knowledge needed to pass the exam and cover test-taking strategies and sample questions from the exams. To learn more about the courses, click here.
