This spring, in an effort to build a more inclusive visit program and connect students with similar interests and backgrounds, the UW-Platteville Welcome Center is offering a variety of different specialty visit opportunities.

“We are excited to offer some new specialty visit options for our prospective students that are unique to them and connect with different resources and departments here at UW-Platteville,” said Nicole Mitchell, campus visit specialist at UW-Platteville. “Creating a more inclusive visit program allows us to take steps to follow through on our mission. We are hoping these new options will meet students where they are at as a result of COVID-19.”

Among the new specialty visit options are First-Generation Fridays and multicultural visit days.

First-Gen Fridays will take place on the first Friday of the month, April through June, and are for first-generation college students who come from a family where neither parent currently has a four-year college degree. At these events, first-generation students will learn more about what their experience at UW-Platteville will look like. Each Friday will highlight a different campus resource, from the SUCCEED program to academic support programs to student organizations.

Multicultural visit days provide an opportunity for admitted students to build connections across campus as they meet and interact with current students and campus departments while learning about the resources UW-Platteville provides students to aid in their overall success. Multicultural visit days will include an information session by the Office of Admission, presentations by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and TRIO Student Support Services, a tour of campus, and a service fair which will connect students with different student organizations on campus.

These specialty visit opportunities are in addition to the regular on-campus visits offered by UW-Platteville at the Platteville, Baraboo Sauk County and Richland campuses as well as the virtual visits.
