The University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s bi-annual Construction Networking Event has set a new company attendance record for the spring event. The event, which started in 2019, has continued to grow in popularity with last semester’s Fall Construction Networking Event having sold out for the first time with over 55 companies in attendance.
There were over 40 construction companies and more than 200 construction management, construction safety management and civil engineering students in attendance at this spring’s event, which brings students together with construction company representatives to network and learn about the industry, company culture and projects, while also discuss internship and job opportunities.
“The event was originally created to help students build their network. Students aren’t aware of all the different opportunities, so this is a great way for companies to come in and sponsor a table to have a conversation [with students] about their industry needs and job opportunities,” said Gretchen Bockenhauer, program coordinator and assistant professor of construction management at UW-Platteville. “For our students, it’s a great way to not be pressured and have those open conversations. From residential, commercial, general contractors or corporate, nationwide to local companies, it’s a very diverse group and they talk about all the different internship, co-op and full-time job opportunities there.”
