The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture (BILSA) welcomed more than 200 students from over 20 high schools for the regional SkillsUSA competition, showcasing the next generation of skilled professionals.
SkillsUSA empowers the next generation of skilled professionals and leaders. As a national nonprofit, SkillsUSA works in partnership with students, teachers and industry leaders to ensure America has a skilled workforce.
"This event exemplifies our commitment to providing hands-on learning experiences that empower students to become skilled, accomplished professionals who contribute wisely to our global community," said Dr. Wayne Weber, dean of the College of BILSA who provided the opening remarks. "Hosting SkillsUSA allows us to support this mission while connecting with talented young people who represent the future of technical education and skilled trades."
Professor Ed Wiegman, from the Applied Engineering Technology Management Department, coordinated the event for UW-Platteville and worked alongside dedicated faculty and staff to ensure its success.
"The third annual SkillsUSA Regional at UW-Platteville has seen continued growth in attendance this year,” remarked Wiegman. “It is proving to be a very successful marketing event for not only the College of BILSA but especially the Applied Engineering Technology Management Department which administers and judges the majority of events."
The competition featured students demonstrating their expertise in various technical fields, reflecting the diverse programs offered within the College of BILSA. Participants competed in categories ranging from industrial technology to agriculture and business skills.
"This competition aligns with the institution's core mission," noted Weber. "The tremendous effort of our faculty and staff made this event possible. I especially want to recognize Professor Wiegman's leadership in coordinating this significant educational opportunity for our region's students."
