Solving Big Problems By Combining Enterprise, Creativity, and Discovery
National Laboratories are amazing places ready to solve big problems with the right tools, and expertise. Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has an interesting 80+ year history that started with the Manhattan Project. After WWII, the same instruments used for separating ²³⁵U also separated most other elements into enriched isotopes.
This talk gives an overview of that history as well as some of my coolest projects using new tools and ideas to solve them. This includes projects in fundamental research, homeland security, discovering new elements, and a potential new route for a better isotope to cure a lot more cancer. It will be a fun and interesting talk.
