LAE's March Faculty Forum is Interspecies Entwinements: Extraction and Healing in the Ayahuasca Economy of Ucayali, Peru. Presented by Dr. Laura Dev, Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences and Society, this case study focuses on the commodification of ayahuasca, a sacred and psychedelic Amazonian plant mixture that has sparked a growing international tourism industry throughout South America. Dr. Dev will explore ayahuasca's commodity journey from rural Shipibo communities in the Amazon of Peru to urban centers in the Global North. Dr. Melissa Gormley, Professor of History, will provide the response.
