(Past) Indigenous Peoples' Day Lecture: Air, Land, Water, and Fire in the Nest of the Thunderbirds
Mike Wiggins, Jr. presents on the protection of water and the conservation of natural resources. Listeners will learn about the environmental stewardship efforts of the Bad River Tribe to proactively protest its lands and waters, which include mining, oil pipelines, and water privatization efforts.
Mike Wiggins, Jr. currently serves the Wisconsin Historical Society as the director of the Madeline Island Museum in the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior. He served 12 years as Tribal Chairman/Executive Director of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippew. At UW-Superior, he attained his bachelor's degree in criminal justice and has received numerous accolades such as "Torchbearer," "Co-Conservationist of the Year," outstanding alumni, and the opportunity to give a commencement address at his alma mater. In his free time, he enjoys playing guitar and utilizing his 1854 Treaty Rights to hunt, fish, and gather in the Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota region of Ceded Territory.
