(Past) Symphony Orchestra Spring 2023 String Auditions

Did you play an instrument in high school and want to continue, while studying something non-musical at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville? Do you currently play in an ensemble and would like to gain symphonic orchestral experience? Do you want to get back to performing concerts and meet new people? Then UW-Platteville's Symphony Orchestra is where you should be! Our Symphony Orchestra is an ensemble opportunity for instrumentalists of all majors, ages, and backgrounds.

UW-Platteville's Symphony Orchestra meets once a week, every Monday from 7:00-9:30PM, and is comprised of music majors, non-music majors, community members, faculty, and staff members. This ensemble performs two full concerts per semester in UW-Plattevilles's Center for the Arts. This year, we plan on expanding our ensemble's size while also collaborating both interdepartmentally and within the community, performing exciting standard and contemporary repertoire. Music we have performed in the fall semester included Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.1 in C Major, Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, and Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. Upcoming repertoire for the Spring 2023 semester includes Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass with all combined UW-Platteville Choirs, Elgar's Cello Concerto in E Minor, and Ralph Vaughan Williams' Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra. This ensemble also includes woodwinds, brass, and percussion! We are currently accepting limited numbers of these instruments, so please contact if you are interested. String players will perform a seating placement audition that is not for admission into the ensemble, but rather for proper seating placement. Auditions will be in the late afternoon and evening of January 26th, after our first meeting and rehearsal Monday, January 23rd at 7:00PM.

We would love to have you in UW-Platteville's Symphony Orchestra! If you are interested, you can register for the course MUSIC 1510 01-LAB (1773) through PASS. Already at 18 credit hours?
