(Past) Understanding Grief in the Workplace

Join April Schmidt for an informative conversation and dialogue about grief and loss in the workplace. Often as a supervisor, leader, or manager there is little preparation to help in how to navigate a conversation when an employee experiences a loss. Grief and loss doesn’t just happen due to death. Grief happens when change occurs. This could be an employee having a family member diagnosed with a serious illness or health condition, loss of employment, changes in work tasks or responsibilities, loss of housing, loss of a loved one, loss of a pet, experiencing a divorce to name a few. In this session, we will explore definitions of grief, loss, bereavement, review the stages of grief, discuss how grief may impact an employee’s work performance, identify situations that may create feelings of grief/loss for an employee and how you can provide support and guidance for an individual in your place who is experiencing grief and loss.
