(Past) White Accountability Dialogues

White Accountability Dialogues
Purpose
The White Accountability Dialogue series was built to promote awareness, education, self-reflection, and allyship among the topics of whiteness, systemic racism, and anti-racism work. Participants engaged in weekly, guided discussions facilitated by 2-3 staff members. Folks were given articles, videos, and activities to reflect on individually and as a group. The content was structured in a scaffolded approach, so each week built upon the next. Participants were encouraged to attend all four sessions as schedules allowed.

These sessions were open to UW-Platteville staff, faculty, and students. Anyone with interest was encouraged to attend, although we intentionally built the program to engage and educate white participants. The dialogues were meant to provide growth, honesty, reflection, and accountability.

We are providing this structure with the knowledge that improvements, updates, and changes can and should be continuously made. We have included the content we asked participants to engage with; we also created accompanied PowerPoints each week that provided additional education and reflection. We feel strongly that information and programs like this should be made as accessible as possible, so white folks can continue to educate each other about race and racism.
Additionally, we want to acknowledge the plethora of resources we utilized to create this program, many of which relied on the experiences, writings, truth-telling, and wisdom of people of color. Citing us is always nice, though. If you choose to do so, please use the following statement:
This program was adapted from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville’s White Accountability Dialogue series hosted by their Department of Campus Climate.
