Capstan Scholarship

The Capstan Scholarship presents an extraordinary opportunity for students planning to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Accounting, or Finance. As a comprehensive scholarship, including tuition, room and board, the Capstan Scholarship affords recipients the honor to graduate debt-free from UW-Platteville.

Merit Scholarship

New freshmen admitted to the Platteville campus are automatically considered for a Merit Scholarship, based on your high school GPA at the time of admission. An official ACT/SAT score can also be taken into consideration, however is not required for eligibility. If you would like to have your test scores considered as a part of the merit scholarship review, an official score sent directly from the testing agency is required.

Award amounts vary between $4,000 to $8,000 and will be divided equally between eight semesters, provided you meet the conditions of renewal. Use our online Cost Calculator to determine your eligibility and award amount. 

This scholarship is only renewable for students who start as new freshman the Fall 2022 term and later. Eligibility is for Fall entry students.

New Freshman Scholarships

Our New Freshman Scholarships are a series of general university and specific college and major scholarships. To apply, first submit the General Scholarship Application. Award amounts vary.

Pioneer Pledge

Deadline: must be admitted to the university by May 1 and file FAFSA by July 1

The Pioneer Pledge guarantees that the cost of undergraduate, on-campus tuition and segregated fees will be covered through a combination of grants and scholarships for new freshmen who are Pell-eligible and a resident of Wisconsin, Illinois, or Minnesota. The program only applies to students at the UW-Platteville campus. Students enrolled in fully online programs do not qualify. This scholarship is guaranteed for students who meet eligibility criteria, and requires no additional application.

Reduced Tuition Costs 

Tuition Advantage

The Tuition Advantage (formerly known as the Tri-State Initiative) provides a discount on out-of-state tuition for eligible new freshmen and transfer students from Illinois and Iowa. It is offered only at the UW-Platteville campus, and also does not apply to students in fully online programs. This scholarship is guaranteed for students who meet eligibility criteria, and requires no additional application.

Minnesota-Wisconsin Tuition Reciprocity 

The Minnesota-Wisconsin tuition reciprocity agreement states that residents of Minnesota can attend Wisconsin institutions, in approved programs and be charged the approved reciprocity tuition rate, plus applicable fees. You must first apply to the Minnesota Office of Higher Education for verification of your eligibility for reciprocity.

Transfer Student Scholarships

Deadline for spring semester: December 1 | Deadline for fall semester: July 1

Incoming transfer students who have not previously attended UW-Platteville, and are planning to enroll full time in UW-Platteville campus courses may qualify for transfer student scholarship awards up to $1,000 for the academic year or $500 per semester. Continuing Student Scholarships

Priority Deadline: March 1 | Final Deadline: April 1

Continuing student scholarships are available from the Colleges of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture; Engineering, Mathematics and Science; and Liberal Arts and Education, as well as general university scholarships. Award amounts vary. To apply, fill out the General Scholarship Application.

Private & Outside Scholarships

UW-Platteville students may also qualify for scholarships from organizations outside of the university. These scholarship funds may also be applied toward costs such as tuition, room and board.
