What You’ll Learn in the Health Promotion Minor

The minor in health promotion is a popular program for students interested in wellness and health education, who are outside of the Department of Health and Human Performance. In this program, you will learn how to advocate for positive health behaviors and practice preventative healthcare in private, corporate, or public wellness settings.

This minor focuses on promoting health and fitness through the theories and practices of personal training and wellness. For example, you’ll learn how to design effective plans for physical activity, health, and wellness for individuals possessing a diverse range of ability and skill; how to create a learning environment to support positive educational and training outcomes in physical activity, health, and wellness in both educational and community settings; and how to communicate health and wellness-specific messaging effectively.

You'll join campus outreach initiatives in group fitness, participate in small group weight room training, and teach general nutrition and performance seminars. You’ll also gain professional expertise that will increase your marketability after graduation by doing internships where you will get real-world experience in designing, implementing, and conducting health promotion and wellness programs.
