What you'll learn in the nursing program

Prepare for a rewarding nursing career with the University of Wisconsin-Platteville's newly launched Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Through a unique partnership with UW Oshkosh, you will gain the skills you need for a future career providing high quality healthcare to individuals and families in rural communities. First, you will complete a bachelor’s degree in any major at UW-Platteville, while completing the preparatory curriculum for the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Next, upon successful application, you will seamlessly transition to the 12-month, online accelerated nursing program offered by UW Oshkosh.

You will complete the accelerated program with a bachelor’s degree of your choice from UW-Platteville, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UW Oshkosh.

The bachelor of nursing degree program combines theory and clinical practice, with coursework that includes the foundations of the nursing practice, health assessment theory, pathophysiology, legal and ethical care, mental health theory, and more. You will learn practices for working with children, adolescents, adults, and aging populations. You will also learn leadership and management skills that will make you an asset to a future employer.

Guaranteed admission eligibility

If you meet the following requirements, you will be eligible for the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program:

  • 3.25 GPA in prerequisite coursework
  • No repeated courses
  • No pass/fail in science courses
  • No grade below “C” in any courses
  • Successful applicant interview
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification and 240 hours of CNA (or commensurate) experience
  • Activities reflecting a lifetime total of 20 hours of service orientation

In the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program you will learn nursing practices and theory at an accelerated pace of one credit per week. Coursework includes health assessment theory; nursing for children, adolescents, and aging patients; as well as clinical rotations.

The program was the first accelerated nursing program of its kind in the United States. Since 2003, UW Oshkosh’s College of Nursing has graduated more than 1,100 accelerated nursing students who represent a strong cadre of registered nurses with diverse experiences and educational backgrounds.
