Biography

About

Dr. Danny Xiao is an associate professor at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He teaches courses related to construction materials and transportation engineering. His research interests include pavement materials (concrete, asphalt, and aggregate), mechanistic empirical pavement design, and infrastructure asset management. Dr. Xiao is currently investigating the impact of deicing and anti-icing materials on the durability of concrete pavements and the effectiveness of penetrating sealers in minimizing the impact, sponsored by Wisconsin Department of Transportation. He is the faculty advisor of American Concrete Institute UW-Platteville Student Chapter. He also serves as a member of the Technical Oversight Committee at Wisconsin Highway Research Program (WHRP) and a member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Design and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements (AKP20) and Asphalt Pavements (AKP30). Dr. Xiao is a licensed Professional Engineer and actively serves at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Wisconsin Section. Dr. Xiao earned his doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas and worked as a Research Associate at Louisiana Transportation Research Center and at Arkansas Department of Transportation before joining University of Wisconsin-Platteville in Fall 2015. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family in the outdoors (running, hiking, camping, biking, longboarding, golfing, skiing, etc.). One of his lifetime dreams is to visit all national parks.
