Biography

About

Kara Candito holds an M.F.A. in creative writing from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Ph.D. in creative writing and literary theory from the Florida State University. She is the author of Taste of Cherry (University of Nebraska Press, 2009), winner of the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry and Spectator (University of Utah Press, 2014), and winner of the Agha Shahid Ali Poetry Prize. Her work has appeared in such journals as AGNIjubilatThe Kenyon ReviewIndiana Review, and Drunken Boat. A recipient of scholarships and awards from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, the Council for Wisconsin Writers, the Vermont Studio Center, the MacDowell Colony, and the Santa Fe Arts Institute, Candito is a Creative Writing Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and a co-curator of the Monsters of Poetry reading series. Her areas of specialization include modernism, Spanish surrealism, and the dramatic monologue (www.karacandito.com).
