Biography

About

Dr. Erin Anderson (sher/her/hers) is an Assistant Professor of Education in the School of Education and teaches Special Education courses. Her research interests focus on early intervention, early childhood emergent/early literacy skills and roles of caregivers in supporting young children's literacy skills.  Within teacher education, she focuses on supporting teacher candidates in effective instruction in inclusive settings. Additionally, she supports teacher candidates on the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy interventions for those students with reading/writing difficulties. She also aims to support educators in effectively collaborating and engaging with families/caregivers and promoting literacy experiences at home. 

Dr. Anderson earned her PhD in Special Education from the University of Washington in 2022. Prior to earning her PhD, she taught both General Education and Special Education in multiple states for over a decade. She has had the opportunity to teach a diverse population of children around the country both with and without identified disabilities. Dr. Anderson has presented at numerous national and regional conferences. She most recently presented at the 2024 Division for Early Childhood International Conference of Young Children with Special Needs and Their Families in New Orleans, LA. She also presented a poster at the Universities of Wisconsin Office of Professional & Instructional Development (OPID) Spring 2024 Conference in Madison, WI. Prior conference presentations included presenting at the 2023 Division for Early Childhood International Conference of Young Children with Special Needs and Their Families in November 2023 in Minneapolis, MN and the 2023 Council for Exceptional Children Conference & Expo in March 2023 in Louisville, KY.

She is a member of the Council on Exceptional Children (CEC), CEC Teacher Education Division (TED), CEC Division for Early Childhood (DEC), CEC Division for Learning Disabilities (DLD), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), AERA Teaching and Teacher Education Division, and the National Rural Education Association
