Greetings Southwest Hall!

Season Greetings from Southwest Hall!
Wow, how the time has flown by and the fall 2017 semester is quickly coming to a close. It has been a great last few months here in Southwest Hall and countless memories have been made. We are very excited to finish up this last stretch and move into winter break. With all this comes lots of excitement, anticipation, information, and of course—FINALS!
With finals just around the corner, you may be looking for some assistance. Here are a few tips to try and boost those final grades just a bit more!

1. Have you taken advantage of your professor’s office hours yet? If not, it is never too late to stop in and ask for help. Professors really do appreciate when students come by and ask questions and get to know them better.
2. Try putting together a study group, but only if studying with others helps youto learn the material better. Not everyone does well studying in groups. Be intentional on picking who to study with and be sure those people are motivating you to study and not to procrastinate.
3. Talk with your RA regarding their study habits. They will surely have a few tips as this is an especially busy time of the year for them.
4. Stay healthy! There is nothing worse than trying to study while being sick. Cold and flu season has arrived. Make it a point to eat healthy, exercise and keep your body on a schedule to keep yourself feeling good.
5. Be sure to get plenty of sleep each night. Burning the midnight oil to cram in those last few facts tends to hinder your performance more than help. Spend some time now to plan out your study schedule well in advance rather than cramming in the night before the big test.
6. Don’t forget to give yourself a break here and there as well. Your brain needs time to relax and regroup. Even if it means taking a few moments to walk down the hall to talk to a friend, be sure to take plenty of study breaks and stay refreshed!

As finals week approaches so does a plethora of information regarding the semester hall closing. Please be touching base with your RA if you are unsure about any of the semester closing processes. They are an excellent resource right on your wing that will make sure you are on the right track. It is important that you are aware of your responsibilities going into break, especially if you are leaving for an extensive period of time. Please attend your wing meeting and follow the guidelines provided for you on the closing checklist hung on your door. The hall closes for break at 6:00 pm on Friday, December 22nd.

Southwest will be open for semester break and Winterim for all residents to stay for no additional cost. Though there is no additional cost to remain in the building, we ask that anyone wishing to remain in the halls past hall close on December 22nd, signs up. The sign-up can be found on the Residence Life website The hall will be staffed throughout the break and desk will be open daily in the evening for item checkout or packages.
Once again, the Southwest Staff would like to thank you all for a wonderful semester! Good luck on all of your finals and we look forward to welcoming you back for the spring 2018 semester. For those that will be moving on to new opportunities good luck as you pursue many future endeavors!
