UW-Platteville to host Senior Design Open House

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will host its sixth Senior Design Open House on Wednesday, May 15 at the Markee Pioneer Student Center. Nearly 220 students from the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science are participating in the event.

The Senior Design Open House will feature 42 projects in the areas of mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, sustainability and renewable energy systems, computer science, software engineering and engineering physics.

Throughout the semester students have been working on projects with industry and community partners to design outcomes that adhere to applicable engineering and other standards, as well as problem constraints. At the open house, these teams will present their research, work and prototypes to their industry sponsors as well as other faculty, staff and students.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity for students to present work that has been not only the focus of this semester, but the culmination of their studies here at UW-Platteville,” said Dr. Jessica Fick, associate professor of mechanical engineering and EMS senior design coordinator. “In addition, earlier students as well as community and industry partners get to see the wide variety of projects our students work on.”

A special thank you goes out to our sponsors: Esterline Avista, Vortex Optics, UW- Spectrum Brands, MGA Research, Plexus, Klauer Manufacturing, Trane Inc., Subzero Wolf, BCI Burke, ITW Shakeproof, Seats Inc., Pierce Manufacturing, Ariens Company, Wier Minerals, John Deere, North Country Trail Association and the U.S. Geological Survey.

Presentations will take place in the Markee Pioneer Student Center from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.
