In the wake of the tragic events on our UW-Platteville campus on May 19, 2025, we remind you that you are not alone. UW-Platteville is here to support you.
A message from Chancellor Tammy Evetovich
May 22, 2025
In the wake of the deeply tragic event on campus this week, I am filled with both sorrow and profound gratitude. This has been an incredibly difficult time for all of us. But in our grief, I have witnessed an extraordinary outpouring of compassion, strength, and solidarity across our campus and beyond. To our faculty and staff who have supported our students with care and dedication; to our students who have shown resilience and empathy; to our alumni who have reached out with words of comfort; and to the broader community that has stood with us—you have my sincerest thanks.
Your support—whether through considerate words, strong hugs, graceful decisions, quiet acts of kindness, or messages of remembrance and support—has been a vital source of healing and hope. It is in moments like these that the true spirit of UW-Platteville shines through: a community bound not only by shared experience, but by deep care for one another.
As we continue to mourn and move forward together, please remember that you are not alone. We will continue to provide resources and support to help our community through this time, and we encourage anyone in need to reach out. The support may not be something you need right now. It may be needed next week or next month or next year. Regardless of when, please say something.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being a source of strength and unity.
Sincerely,
Chancellor Tammy Evetovich

What emotional support resources are available?
As we continue to process the recent events on campus, UW-Platteville remains committed to supporting the wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff. As a reminder, here are the resources available to you, and—remember—this support does not end when you leave campus for the summer.
Students:
- University Counseling Services continues to offer in-person triage counseling through Friday, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in Royce Hall. Students can walk in or call 608.342.1865. University Counseling Services is staffed in the summer.
- Mantra Health offers virtual counseling and remains an option for students.
Faculty and staff:
- Access support through Acentra Health any time by calling (833) 539-7285 or visiting https://sowi.mylifeexpert.com/ (Username: SOWI).
On Monday evening, we established a toll-free emotional support line to provide immediate assistance to support acute needs. Since then, the call volume on this support line has remained low, suggesting members of our community are finding the support they need through our existing counseling services. As a result, this toll-free line was discontinued as of 10 a.m. on May 21 and we will continue to focus our efforts on our other counseling resources that are being more actively used.
What about final exams?
On Monday evening, UW-Platteville cancelled all remaining final exams and assessments. If students have questions, they should contact the dean’s office for their college. Contact information is as follows:
