The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Department of Performing and Visual Arts will host its annual November Show in the Art Building from Nov. 6 through Dec. 16, with an opening reception on Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 4-6 p.m.

The November Show is the annual exhibition of student works of art from the past year. This exhibition showcases the work that has been created by all students – first-year through graduating seniors – and features all disciplines: drawing and painting, design, illustration, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics.

“This exhibition is truly the biggest show of the year for our students,” said Greg Nelson, professor of art at UW-Platteville. “For many of our first-year students, it is their first opportunity to show their work on campus, and for our graduating seniors, it’s a way to show some of the progress made throughout their final year as a UW-Platteville student.”

This exhibition also serves as a way for the program to reconnect with its alumni. Each year, a former graduate returns to campus to serve as a guest judge. The judge selects three award winners from the work exhibited, and these students will receive cash prizes, which have been made available through a generous donation from Thomas Hickey.

“This is such a great exhibition for our students, alumni and for the program,” said Nelson. “It also comes at the perfect time during the semester when students have been working hard for several weeks and they are able to see their work on display. It serves as a celebration of everything that they have accomplished, and they can also show off a bit to their friends and family.”

The opening reception on Nov. 16 will feature live music from the UW-Platteville Music program and will conclude with a short award ceremony.
