This series will explore the first 200 years of Wisconsin history, from its "discovery" by Jean Nicolet in 1634 up through our becoming the 30th state on May 29, 1848. We will discuss the early French explorers, Indian Wars and military activity during the American Revolution, War of 1812 and Black Hawk War, fur trade, early lead mining, and more. Maps, paintings, photographs, and reproductions, as well as actual artifacts of clothing and tools will help bring the stories of these people, places, and events to life.
