Temporary handicap permit information
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville Police Department provides a temporary 10-day handicap permit. If a permit is needed longer, the individual will have to apply with the Department of Transportation within the state they reside. The UW-Platteville police will not extend a 10-day handicap permit.
- The UW-Platteville Police Department requires a doctor’s written authorization before issuing a temporary handicap permit. The authorization needs to be on hospital/clinic letterhead and include:
- Name of the person authorizing individual.
- Reason for the handicap permit.
- Individual’s name stating they need a handicap permit.
- Fax to the UW-Platteville Police Department at 608.342.1641.
- The 10-day permit may be applied for and picked up at the UW-Platteville Police Department upon receipt of the authorization.
- The temporary handicap permit fee is cash or check. Persons with a current UW-Platteville permit will not be charged this fee. Contact the office for the current fee amount.
- The UW-Platteville Police Department reserves the right to place restrictions on temporary handicap permits.
- The 10-day temporary handicap permit is only valid in UW-Platteville parking lots.
- If you display the UW-Platteville temporary handicap permit:
- You may park on campus in any designated handicap stall.
- You may park in any non-reserved, legal parking stall if no handicap stalls are available.
- You are exempt from any meter charges.
State handicap permit information
- If you display any state handicap permit:
- You may park in any designated handicap stall provided you display your valid state handicap permit and a current university valid permit.
- You may park in any non-reserved, legal parking stall if no handicap stalls are available provided you display a valid state handicap permit and a current university valid permit.
- You are exempt from any meter charges.
All vehicles displaying a handicap permit must display a current UW-Platteville parking permit to park in a permit required stall including a handicap stall.
