Come to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to learn about the exciting career opportunities that are available for women interested in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
The Alliant Energy Pioneering Your Future in STEM event is open to girls in fifth through eighth grade.
Explore careers with hands-on, interactive sessions that involve:
- Critical thinking
- Learning the design process
- Using problem solving skills to solve real-world challenges
Those in STEM careers make a difference in society, and many more women are needed in scientific fields.
Individuals, chaperoned school groups, home school groups, and girl scout troops are all welcome. Pioneering Your Future in STEM is a collaboration of women faculty, staff, and students from STEM programs at UW-Platteville such as agriculture, astronomy, biology, geography, geology, animal science, chemistry, computer science, dairy science, engineering, industrial studies, math, physics, and sustainability and renewable energy systems.

Our mission in this program is to have the participants learn about careers that are not familiar to them and get to know girls from other schools.
Approximately 20–25 students will be assigned to each group and will be divided into 3–4 tables (6–7 per table). They will be assigned a table for the welcome activities and lunch and will sit with girls from other schools. No more than 1–2 participants at the table will be from their own school.
Groups will be assigned to sessions because we want to expose them to topics that they might not choose on their own.

Teachers and class groups only
If you are bringing a large group of students, you can print paper registration forms to send home with the students for parents to fill out.
That information will need to be entered into the online registration form prior to the deadline. Spots cannot be held while collecting paper registration and there is a risk that the program can fill up before the deadline.
There is no cost for chaperones to attend. Chaperones are required to register and stay in the building for supervision during the event. Registering as a chaperone does not register the students. Breakfast and lunch is included for chaperones.
Teachers, please do not substitute students at the last minute for those who decide not to attend.
All students must be registered, and we must have received their signed consent form and payment five business days prior to the day of the program. If you need to substitute students, please contact us as soon as possible.
If registration for the event is full, you will be placed on the wait list. If openings become available, you will be contacted via email. Do not pay the fee until you have been notified that you have a spot. Email us at email@example.com if you have questions.
