UW-Platteville Community, this message provides an update regarding the Chancellor search. Below is a short description of the essential duties of a Chancellor in the UW-System. We thought it would be helpful to share this foundational information so that our campus community started with a shared understanding of a Chancellor’s required role before we start collecting thoughts and ideas specific to the next UW-Platteville Chancellor.  

University of Wisconsin System Chancellor Position Description 

The Chancellor is employed to serve as executive head of the University and its faculty and shall be responsible for administering Board policies under the coordinating direction of the President of the University of Wisconsin System and shall be accountable to the Board and to the President on the operation and administration of the institution. The Chancellor reports to the President of the UW System. Subject to Board policy, the Chancellor, in consultation with the faculty, is responsible for designing curricula and setting degree requirements; determining academic standards and establishing grading systems; defining and administering institutional standards for faculty peer evaluation; screening candidates for appointment, promotion and tenure; recommending individual merit increases; administering associated auxiliary services; and administering all funds, from whatever source, allocated, generated or intended for use by the University. The Chancellor also is responsible for promoting key University initiatives, including enrollment and access strategies for bringing additional diversity to faculty, staff, and students, and for leading successful fund-raising efforts. The Chancellor shall also carry out such other duties as the UW System President assigns.

We value your input and invite you to attend a listening session on October 31, 2022 or November 1, 2022 to respond to the following questions:  

  • What career experiences and leadership competencies will best equip your next Chancellor to achieve success? 
  • What qualities/skills do you think are essential for the next UW-Platteville Chancellor? 
  • What do you hope the next UW-Platteville Chancellor will prioritize and lead the campuses to accomplish? 
  • What are the top 3-5 UW-Platteville “selling points” which will compel the most attractive candidates to explore this opportunity? Share what you think makes UW-Platteville distinctive. 
  • Any additional thoughts that you would like the search committee to consider? 

Any faculty, staff, student, and community member are welcome to attend any listening session regardless of the classification of the session.  

We are also providing an online written feedback opportunity to the same questions the listening sessions will cover. The online feedback form will be available here for two weeks: https://www.uwplatt.edu/chancellor-search

In person attendance is preferred, there will also be an online option to join available for each listening session which will be provided closer to the date listed below.
