UW-Platteville agribusiness instructor to co-lead financial course at dairy meetings
A UW-Platteville agribusiness professor is set to co-lead a financial seminar at a dairy meeting in Green Bay next month.
Dr. Kevin Bernhardt and negotiation expert Linda Swindling will run the "Nail the Financials and Negotiations" at the Professional Dairy Producers' Dairy Management Institute workshop. The two-day event is scheduled for Dec. 15-16 at UW-Green Bay. It's designed to give dairy managers the skills they need to effectively lead their teams.
Bernhardt and Swindling will walk seminar participants through different negotiation styles and how to use them in discussions, how to establish farm break-even points, how to calculate cost-benefits and how to know when to walk away and when to compromise.
Bernhardt holds a doctorate in agricultural economics from the University of Nebraska. He joined the UW-Platteville faculty in 1996 after working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Foreign Agricultural Service, Sen. Chuck Grassley's office and as a lender for Hills Bank and Trust Company in Iowa City, Iowa.
In addition to teaching at UW-Platteville, Bernhardt serves as a UW-Extension farm management specialist. He provides workshops and presentations to farmers, lenders and women in agriculture across the country.
