Elizabeth Runde, academic program specialist in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, is being recognized with the 2023 Professional Academic Advisor of the Year Award for exemplifying the best qualities of academic staff advisors.

Hired for a position in the School of Education in 2010, Runde has stayed within the department and is proud to be a part of UW-Platteville, stating it is a positive place to work. In her current role, she hopes to assist in shepherding students through UW-Platteville’s education program so that they can be successful in the surrounding school districts. She strives to be a strong advocate for students while learning new policies and procedures along the way.

“Liz is an amazing academic advisor. She is knowledgeable of UW-Platteville’s education program requirements as well as teacher requirements for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction,” said Dr. Lindsay Hollingsworth, who nominated Runde. “Liz provides an incredible level of support to her advisees as well as to other students, staff and faculty. I am delighted she was selected as the recipient of this esteemed award.”

Runde says she is not the type of individual who needs to be recognized but felt appreciated and honored when she found out she had been nominated.

“I feel grateful that I am able to support [students] throughout their time on campus,” said Runde, who enjoys connecting with them and discussing their goals and interests. “I believe I learn as much from them as they do from me.”

Runde will be recognized at the UW-Platteville annual faculty and staff convocation on Thursday, Aug. 31.
