IDEA Hub brings entrepreneurial workshop program to branch campuses

Southwest Wisconsin’s growing IDEA Hub, which supports innovators and entrepreneurs as they translate ideas into action, will bring its free “Your Startup in 10 Minutes” experience to UW-Platteville’s two branch campuses – Tuesday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. at UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County and Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. at UW-Platteville Richland.

Maia Donohue, executive director of the Innovation Driving Entrepreneurship Accelerator (IDEA) Hub, a partnership between UW-Platteville and the Southwestern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, says the roughly one-hour sessions help anyone learn more about the steps to form a business idea and consider its possibilities with feedback and input from the group.

“It moves fast,” said Donohue. “We’ll divide into teams who will come up with a quick idea, develop and shape it a bit, and then work out a pitch that all the other teams will listen to and engage with, all within 10 minutes,” said Donohue, who hopes the sessions can give everyone more familiarity with the innovation process.  “Overall, we want to lower the barriers for entrepreneurship, and for those with more developed ideas, these sessions are a great place to learn more, connect with us and find out how we can help a startup business.”

Donohue hopes attendees can have some fun and learn to think creatively about business ideas and what it takes to launch a successful startup.

“The program serves as an entry point that lets anyone learn more about the steps that go into turning an idea into a business,” he said.
