Chancellor Shields announces leadership updates

Chancellor speaking

Chancellor Dennis J. Shields announced changes in his leadership team and direct reports today, as the University of Wisconsin-Platteville begins preparation for its 154th academic year. Chancellor Shields is beginning his 10th year as the head of UW-Platteville.

  • Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Joanne Wilson will continue to serve in this role through the 2019-2020 academic year. She has provided exceptional leadership in a number of areas across campus in her 33 years at UW-Platteville. Most recently, she has been instrumental in leading the collaborative integration of the branch campuses. Dr. Wilson plans to retire at the conclusion of the academic year.

  • Assistant Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion Angela Miller will now serve an additional role as Chief of Staff for internal operations while continuing to lead the Diversity and Inclusion division. She has been with the university since 2011 and became assistant chancellor in 2018. Under her leadership, UW-Platteville has made tremendous strides in creating and growing programs that foster inclusivity and provide access and support for underserved populations; recent examples include the STEM Discovery outreach program and a new Hispanic outreach program. She was honored with the UW System Regents’ Diversity Award in 2017.

  • Vice Chancellor for University Relations Rose Smyrski will continue to serve as the Chief of Staff for external relations. She has been a vice chancellor since 2015 and has led a number of successful efforts including securing state support for the university’s new building projects, as well as creating the university’s Corporate Relations department.

  • Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services Paige Smith will also serve as the legal liaison to the UW System to focus on the university’s legal needs. Since joining UW-Platteville in 2018, she has been instrumental in leading the university’s strategic planning, the development of the compliance office, and provided important leadership enhancing our Human Resources department.

  • Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and Student Success Angela Udelhofen will continue in the role she has held since 2016. She has been with the university since 2003 and has been a dynamic leader in strategic enrollment management. Most recently she has contributed invaluable leadership and oversight during the integration of the branch campuses.

  • Athletic Director Shannon Ealy is resigning his position, effective July 30. Football Coach Mike Emendorfer will serve as the interim director, a position he held in 2016-17. He has led the Pioneer football program for 20 years, and his successes recently landed him induction into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Chancellor Shields is extraordinarily grateful to Joyce Burkholder for her many years of service to the university. She recently retired as his executive assistant after working at the university for more than 30 years. Joyce supported four Chancellors at UW-Platteville and her commitment and service to the university has been exemplary.  Lauren Ganzer was recently hired to serve as Executive Assistant. She is an alumna of UW-Platteville, having graduated with a degree in business administration in 2014. She worked in the Chancellor’s suite as a student, and has since remained engaged with the university, serving on the Alumni Association Board of Directors. She previously worked at Northwestern Mutual and Loras College, in Dubuque, Iowa.

Chancellor Shields invites the university to attend the annual convocation on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m. in Velzy Commons, Ullsvik Hall.
