Chancellor Evetovich honored with Woman of the Year Award

Chancellor Evetovich

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Chancellor Dr. Tammy Evetovich is being honored with the 2023 Dr. Carol Sue Butts Woman of the Year Award, which recognizes female employees and students who make a difference in the lives of others in the campus community.

Chancellor Evetovich joined UW-Platteville as provost and vice chancellor of Academic Affairs in 2020, immediately helping to navigate the university through the global pandemic and ensure the well-being and educational needs of students and faculty were prioritized. In 2022, she was named interim chancellor. After serving in that role for 10 months, she was appointed the 15th, and first female, chancellor of UW-Platteville on April 25, 2023. Upon becoming chancellor, she made it a priority to broaden her cabinet and promote a strong shared governance presence in it. She is frequently praised for her engagement across campus and empowerment of others.

The Dr. Carol Sue Butts Woman of the Year Award is named for the provost emerita and first female interim chancellor in UW-Platteville’s history, who served at the university from 1998 until 2010. Chancellor Evetovich noted that it is a special honor to receive this award in the former interim chancellor’s name.

“I would not be where I am today without great women groundbreakers like Dr. Carol Sue Butts, who helped pave the way for women in leadership at UW-Platteville,” said Chancellor Evetovich. “Women leaders bring a unique skillset to the table including collaboration, process orientation and persuasion. But we especially bring our ability to display confident humility. When confidence and humility are successfully combined, a leader develops. One with great credibility who can influence and impact effectively. Carol Sue had this ability, and I am honored to follow in her footsteps to mentor, lift others up and build pathways for all.”

Chancellor Evetovich and other university award winners will be honored at the university faculty and staff convocation on Thursday, Aug. 31.
