UW-Platteville welcomes Smith as interim vice chancellor

University of Wisconsin-Platteville Chancellor Dennis J. Shields announced that Paige Smith has been appointed a two-year position as interim vice chancellor of Administrative Services at UW-Platteville. Her appointment begins on April 15.

“Paige Smith brings a broad understanding about university administration,” Chancellor Shields said. “Her insight from her role as a senior lawyer at System Legal and her professional experience in higher education at Southern Illinois University are invaluable during these transitional years in higher education.”

Smith, formerly Reed, recently served as Chief of Institutional Policy and Compliance at UW-Whitewater. In that position, she was responsible for providing oversight and advice to the chancellor and senior administration on Board of Regent policy, federal and state compliance matters as well as the Title IX Coordinator. Smith also serves as interim vice chancellor for Administrative Affairs at UW-Whitewater for a brief period in 2017. Smith has served as legal counsel for public institutions of higher education for over 13 years, six of those at UW System Office of General Counsel. Smith’s area of expertise include employment, Title IX, diversity, faculty and student governance, campus safety and security, transactions, federal and state regulatory compliance and litigation management.

The Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services portfolio folds in the departments currently overseen by the interim assistant chancellor for Administrative Services. Todd Carothers will continue in that role as a direct report to the vice chancellor for Administrative Services.

The departments under Administrative Services include: Dining Services, Facilities Management, Financial Services, Human Resources, Project Management Center of Excellence, Information Technology and University Police. In addition, the new vice chancellor will oversee the critically important areas of compliance and strategic planning for the university.
