Thanks to a well-rounded curriculum with hands-on experiences and a liberal arts foundation, its business students are prepared to enter the workforce with strong leadership skills and the ability to succeed in an ever-evolving society.
“We are grateful to have the UW-Platteville School of Business recognized for this honor,” notes Dr. Les Hollingsworth, director of the School of Business. “The faculty and staff are committed to providing a top-tier business education and supporting the next generation of business leaders. We deeply appreciate recognition of that energy, hard work, and passion.”
Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction, explains UW-Platteville’s process for becoming a Business College of Distinction: "We look for qualities such as accreditation, program breadth, advising and mentoring, integration of career services, and successful student outcomes. Thriving in a precarious economy requires one to be agile in the face of change. We applaud UW-Platteville’s emphasis on educating ethical, agile, and competent leaders.”
To earn this distinction, UW-Platteville demonstrated the following indicators of excellence:
- Practical Experience – The School of Business enhances students’ professional preparation through high-impact learning such as client- and community-based projects, internships, short study abroad opportunities, and interdisciplinary projects. The business school’s faculty believe that the best path to developing ethical and skilled business professionals is through repeated practice under real business conditions.
- Industry Connections – Students enrolled in the School of Business establish professional connections in their field through “Meet the Firm” events, business competitions, and attendance at professional conferences such as SHRM, AMA, state CPA associations, and others.
- Multidisciplinarity – The School of Business offers majors and minors in all of the primary business disciplines, e.g. accounting, finance, human resources, management, marketing, supply chain, and entrepreneurship. The array of coursework and programs cultivates critical thinking and decision-making skills, as well as critical soft skills like leadership, innovation, public speaking, and information literacy.
- Accreditation – The UW-Platteville School of Business is a member of ACBSP: Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, which emphasizes program excellence through continuous quality improvement.
- Dedicated Advising and Counseling – The School of Business offers high-quality academic advising by faculty, major-specific advising, and career advising to support students throughout their educational journey.
"Business leaders need to grow and evolve alongside their industries,” continued Schritter. “UW-Platteville’s programs ensure that its graduates will adapt gracefully to a complex and expanding global market.”
