What is a CMS?

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville's main website for marketing and communication is www.uwplatt.edu. That website has a content management system (CMS) that allows content stewards to add and update web pages on the website.

What is a CMS?

A CMS, or content management system, provides the following capabilities:

  • We can manage web content (e.g. add web pages, edit web pages, etc.)
  • Manage the design or "theme" of our website to insure a consistent brand and identity
  • Enhanced functionality including web forms, photo galleries, blogs, discussion forums, slide shows, and other visual presentation features
  • Optize web content for search engines
  • Insure all web content is accessible to people with disabilities or special needs
  • Insure web content is mobile device friendly

Who are content stewards?

Content stewards are the people in every department, office, and organization on campus who are responsible for creating and updating web pages for their area. The Web Development Office provides training and assistance to content stewards. New content stewards must first complete a training session to gain editor access to the CMS. If you would like to request access for a new content steward in your department or office, please contact Web Development Office at web@uwplatt.edu or call 608.342.1444.
