Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

Instructors who systematically study effective teaching and/or student learning and share their work through presentations and publications embody the practice of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). SoTL facilitates improvement of undergraduate learning by engaging the scholarly talents and dedication of faculty and instructional staff.

Approaches to SoTL can vary by discipline, but the common theme is scholarly research on evidence-based practice as defined and implemented by instructors in their courses. At UW-Platteville, the TTC supports SoTL by fostering instructor inquiry into teaching and building interdisciplinary communities that support and refine this inquiry.
