Faculty & Fire Lecture Series

A nature talk series with marshmallows.

Come learn about nature in our Memorial Park. Each talk is open to the public and will have a campfire with marshmallows afterwards.

The basics

  • Meet at Memorial Park Shelter (free parking is available in the lot next to the shelter)
  • Dress for the weather
  • Everyone welcome
  • In cases of stormy weather, the event will be cancelled.

2017-2018 Schedule

Campus History Through Trees by Dr. Larson- Sep. 13, 6-7:30 p.m.

Dr. Larson will talk about what campus might have looked like hundreds of years ago, before it was part of the United States and before written history. His research in tree-rings tells us a story of how Native Americans controlled the landscape intentionally with fires and other methods. After listening to Dr. Larson talk, join him for a campfire with marshmallows to ask questions and hang out.

Star Gazing with Dr. Rabidoux - cancelled due to cloudy weather (sorry for any inconvenience
Oct. 12, 8-9:30 p.m.

Dr. Rabidoux will meet us in Memorial Park to show us star constellations and tell us about some of her favorite star facts. After listening to Dr. Rabidoux talk, join her for a campfire with marshmallows to ask questions and hang out.

Frog watching with Dr. Peterson
May 2, 8 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

Dr. Peterson will take us on a hunt for frogs. We will walk around the Park and look for frogs (and possibly other night creatures) with a spotlight and by sound. After listening to Dr. Peterson talk, join him for a campfire with marshmallows to ask questions and hang out.
