Markee Digital Signage

The Markee digital signage system displays information on services and events offered by registered student organizations and university organizations. Non-university organizations may also use the system to display information pertaining to their events scheduled through the Event Reservations office within Student Centers facilities.


  • Advertisements for non-university services and organizations are not allowed. University events or programs occurring at off-campus locations may advertise the location as the event site only.
  • Advertisements encouraging participation in community and civic activities, such as community clean up days or elections are permitted; however, advertisements endorsing political candidates or for community fundraisers are not. 
  • Advertisements may be posted for no more than fourteen (14) consecutive days.
  • Advertisements must be created specifically for the video display system; PDFs of event posters, flyers, and other print material cannot be displayed.
  • Advertisements must be submitted at least five (5) business days in advance of the desired start date.
  • Advertisements promoting the sale of alcohol are not allowed.
  • Advertisements not related to, or in contradiction of, the educational mission of the university may be deemed inappropriate and not allowed.
  • Advertisements are subject to additional university and Student Centers policies; including but not limited to fundraising approval, facility use approval, food handling, and the visual identity system

Design Guidelines

  • Submit a JPEG in 16:9 aspect ratio. Image resolution should be no less than 72 ppi and no greater than 150 ppi. The name of the sponsoring organization must appear in the graphic. Images are on screen for only eight seconds, so simple designs are best.
  • Images should be high resolution images (not from the Internet) that are not copyrighted. If an image is copyright protected, you must have permission to use the image.
  • University Logo Guidelines: If you are using the University logo in your design it must comply with the university visual identity system.
  • Permission to use Pioneer Pete's image must be cleared with University Information and Communications.
  • Grammar Standards
  • Days of the week should be spelled out (Monday, not Mon. or Mon)
  • Months should be spelled out if alone, abbreviate when with the day (i.e. Monday, Jan. 4)
  • R.S.V.P. instead of RSVP
  • Time should included periods in a.m. and p.m., use noon (not 12 p.m.), and midnight (not 12 a.m.)
  • Year is not needed if in the current year
  • Dates do not put "st", "nd", "rd", "th" on dates (January 4 not January 4th)
  • Abbreviations/acronyms: spell out in first reference

Creating a 16:9 image

  • For InDesign
    • Create a new web document measuring 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels high, or a new print document measuring 26.6667 inches wide and 15 inches high.
    • Design the graphic for your event. The smallest type should be no smaller than 14 point.
    • Export the graphic to JPEG format (File > Export > JPEG).
    • Set quality to High; format method to Baseline; resolution to 72 pixels per inch; and color space to RGB.
  • For Photoshop
    • Create a file 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels high, with a resolution of 72 pixels per inch, in RGB color mode.
    • Design the graphic for your event.
    • Save the file (File > Save As) as a JPEG.
  • For Illustrator
    • Create a file measuring 1920 pixels wide and 1080 pixels high, RGB color mode, with raster effects set to Screen (72 ppi).
    • Design the graphic for your event.
    • Export the graphic to JPEG format (File > Export > JPEG).
    • Set quality to 10, the highest setting, and confirm that the image is in RGB color mode.
  • For PowerPoint
    • This method creates a smaller image that will not appear as clearly, but the proportions are correct.
    • Create a presentation slide in Widescreen 16:9 slide size.
    • Design the graphic for your event.
    • Save the file (File > Save As) as a JPEG.
