Dr. Rubino earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Southern Methodist University, and earned his Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Palermo in Italy with a focus on structural analysis of fixed wings aircrafts. After receiving his master's, Dr. Rubino worked for the Italian Air Force on F16 aircraft maintenance and for the Italian Space Agency on satellite mission design.

His research focuses on piezoelectric flow energy harvesting, development of optical microsensors based on the Whispering Gallery Modes phenomenon, and viscoelastic material characterization. In addition, he worked on wind tunnel design and engineering education.

Dr. Rubino is currently a member of AIAA-American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and of SPIE-the optical society.
