Turtle Island Quartet
with guest liz Carroll
Friday, December 1
The two-time GRAMMY® winning Turtle Island Quartet joins forces with renowned Irish fiddler and composer Liz Carroll for a joyous concert of effervescent music making. The repertoire evokes visions of a frosty winter’s eve and year-end celebrations from around the globe. From ancient King Wren songs of the Celtic winter solstice and yuletide reels from Ireland to tunes of Hannukah, a Hindu spiritual, and a Miles Davis holiday classic, Liz Carroll and Turtle Island delve into the timeless music that has been an integral part of wintertime festivities for centuries.
This performance is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Dorothea Wilgus Pickard Fund.
2018 Jazz Festival with
special guest Miguel Zenón
Friday, February 2
Multiple Grammy Nominee and Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenón represents a select group of musicians who have masterfully balanced and blended the often contradictory poles of innovation and tradition. Widely considered as one of the most groundbreaking and influential saxophonists of his generation, he has also developed a unique voice as a composer and as a conceptualist, concentrating his efforts on perfecting a fine mix between Latin American Folkloric Music and Jazz.
This performance is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Brodbeck Theater Fund.
