Meet Stephanie

Stephanie Prochaska is a double major in Spanish and International Studies with a minor in Latin American Studies at UW-Platteville. After graduation, she has aspirations to complete her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in her fields of study. From the time she was in high school, Stephanie always knew she wanted to study abroad, and she had always wanted to study abroad in Argentina. However, she did not know where to go from there. During her first semester at UW-Platteville, she learned of the Education Abroad Office in one of her classes, and with their guidance she decided to complete a semester in Buenos Aires, Argentina for Latin American Studies, a program which coincided with her minor.

While in Buenos Aires, Stephanie took an array of courses, from Basic Portuguese to Latin American Cinema to Latin American History of the Twentieth Century. These classes propelled her forward personally, but they also increased her knowledge of Argentina, Latin America, and their shared culture. Additionally, she learned of the impact the United States has had on Latin America, for better or for worse. During her free time outside of classes, Stephanie traveled to Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil, and Chile, as well as Patagonia. She spent this time visiting main sites, seeing museums, and even getting the chance to see penguins and climb a glacier! Stephanie firmly believes that her education abroad experience has improved her life, and being able to study abroad has been one of her biggest accomplishments. She hopes that others like her can share in the amazing experience as well.

Coming back to the United States, Stephanie knew that she wanted to help her peers be able to study abroad, so she applied and was chosen as the Professional Writing Intern. This opportunity will allow her to stay up to date with international topics and affairs, and now she will be able to help students who were in her shoes just a short while ago.
